Exhaling Water

Getting ready for vacation is always stressful. Usually I
need a vacation from preparing to go on vacation.
A few summers ago it was no different. Add this to my
already super stressed-out life and it was more than I could stand. By the time
we were ready to leave I was fighting back tears and NOT wanting to go AT ALL.
Then we arrived and I got out of the truck. I found myself standing
mere feet from the water’s edge, and I felt myself exhale as I never had
before. My shoulders literally dropped 2 inches in 10 seconds.
Whether it’s at a beach, mountain, cruise, or theme park, many
times vacations happen at or near some kind of body of water.
What is it about water that is relaxing and life-giving? Is
it water’s coolness? The smell, be it from chlorine or seaweed or algae? That
we are relatively weightless in it? The way it sparkles in light? The myriad
sounds it can make, from ocean to fountain to trickling faucet?
Is it because water is literally life to our bodies, to our
world? Is it that Jesus gives Living Water for our thirsty souls?
Choose your meaning. Choose your metaphor.
Choose to take me with you when you visit your next body of
water. I could use a good exhale.
