One of the first few full phrases my daughter learned was, “Daddy’s working.” She’d tell her teachers at day care and random people who simply asked her name. She’d remind me during the day and sometimes seemingly say it to herself when she walked in and daddy wasn’t home. She’s known, since she was capable of comprehending, that daddy works, daddy works a lot, and if daddy isn’t with us, he must be somewhere working.
She has no idea how many times she’s said that phrase and I’ve heard the Lord speaking through her—days when I was down or challenged or just plain needy, her words would ring in my ears like a Holy Spirit alarm clock. Even now, so many years later, I think of her saying it and a wave of peace overtakes me. Daddy (with a capital D) really is working, and maybe I don’t see Him, but He’s out there taking care of business and doing something good on my behalf.
Let that resonate in you today.
If you’re facing an impossibility or simply questioning the stuff of life, encourage yourself with the thought that Daddy is working. If you’re experiencing a little doubt, I leave you with some verses to boost your faith. Read them, recite them, memorize them, yell them, whisper them, write them, and above all, begin to BELIEVE them.
“For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” Philippians 2:13 NKJV
“For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.” 1 Thessalonians 2:13 NKJV
“There are different ways God works in our lives, but it is the same God who does the work through all of us.” 1 Corinthians 12:6 NLT
“Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.” Hebrews 13:20-21 NKJV
