Love Written in the Stars

It’s my typical post-work stance – neck cranked back, eyes peering up to a sea of stars. I return home after a long day of work, park my car, emerge and stare. It’s one of my favorite moments of the day, just pausing from the activity of life and gazing at the majesty of the heavens.

“Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. “ Pslam 36:5

I love listening to speakers share about recent discoveries of astrophysics and the wonders of the stars above. The more I learn, the more undone I am by the greatness of our God and the love He has for us. I always think of how small we are, and how the expanse above is there to tell of His glory and delight us to the core.

Then I imagine this great God showing up on planet Earth as a baby. And this love that could not be contained by the heavens above, is realized in the person of Jesus.

“For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ.” John 1:17

As we meditate on the wonders of the story of the birth of Jesus this Advent season, may each of us be touched anew by the power of His great love.
