"Protection App"

Smart phones can be a wonderful safety net. Just today, I was with the kids at a restaurant during lunch, when the waitress asked me if I'd heard about the earthquake. I hadn't heard anything (most less felt anything - I later found out that everyone, including my husband, felt the earthquake but ME!) I immediately picked up my phone and pulled up the breaking news. I don't like being out of the loop when things are going on - it's very unsettling. I've also been keeping a constant eye on the "Weather Channel App" this week because Hurricane Irene's forecast is expected to make landfall where I live. Also this week I've been using my phone to check messages and updates on several friends who are facing serious health challenges so that I could know how to pray. Last, but certainly not least, I've left my phone with my kids when I'm out of the house so they can call 911 in case of an emergency.

So my phone has become a source of protection in a way. But at the end of the day...it's still just a phone. The only real protection I can count on isn't found in knowing more about the problem, having information at my fingertips, or depending on the authorities to come to my rescue. If I want to feel truly safe, I just go to the "Protection App" found in God's Word. Curious? Okay, here it is...
Psalm 91: "Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
When trouble surrounds you, go to the "Protection App" found in the Bible - read it, confess it, and meditate on it. He alone is your strong tower, and the righteous run to Him.(Proverbs 18:10)
