It began with a promise.

I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies.” Genesis 22:7

It continued with a hope and a prayer.

"Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens! May your glory shine over all the earth.”  Psalm 57:5

Light began to stir.

“The people who walk in darkness
will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine.” Isaiah 9:2

Light came.

"The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world."
John 1:8-10
"Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” John 8:12

Light spread.

For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.” 2 Corinthians 4:6

And then the stars came out to play.

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.”
Matthew 5:13-15
“For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!” Ephesians 5:8

What you carry may be greater than you know – this little light of yours. He dreamt from the beginning you would shine like a star in the sky reflecting His goodness and love.  As we remember the great light that came into the world hidden in a manger, may we seek His face, learning how to shine brightly wherever He plants our feet.
