Christmas Light

Matthew 4:16

"The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned."

Last summer, our family visited a cave out here in western, PA.

As we descended deeper and deeper into the cavern, I wondered how the place would feel without light. Any light.

Well, my wondering became reality when we enter a "room" in which a door had been built. Why? So we could experience complete and utter darkness.

A darkness so black and endless that not even the very fingers on my hand were visible - even as i wiggled them right before my eyes.

Upon closing the "door" and turning off all the work lights, everyone stopped moving. You could feel tension. People shuffled. It was getting uncomfortable. The "what if's" began running through my mind - and I'm sure others as well.

And then?

A tiny light. Like the point of a pin. One spot. Visible to all. Cutting the darkness. And even that smallest of lights cut the darkness like a scalpel. Clean. Precise. Sharp. It gave hope. Relief. There were murmurs of gratitude from the crowd.

Following that minuscule brightness, we were blessed with a magnificent light show set to the Hallelujah chorus.

As the light engulfed our tiny, tight, dark cell, my panic subsided. I knew that myself, my family, and our tour group would be fine. The Light reminded us that Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace were always present.
We just couldn't see it.

It has now been made visible to us.

So follow it. Christmas may technically be over, but the STAR continues to shine brightly for all. Not only at Christmas.

Follow the light.
