Remember God's Faithfulness

If you were to take a "walk down memory lane" - what would it look like?  Would it be filled with mostly happy or painful memories? Would it include a bunch of achievements, or a list of regrets?  What about answered prayer? Could you make a mental note of God's faithfulness?

No matter what your personal "memory lane" looks like, if we're completely honest with ourselves, it would probably include times when you wondered what God was up to.  Like when your faced with such difficult circumstances you don't know what to do. Or when your prayers don't appear to be answered.  When you can't feel God's presence or hear His voice...a time when you're in your own personal "wilderness" so to speak. In moments like these, it's easy to feel as if God has forgotten you.  If you've ever felt this way...you're not alone.
Isaiah 49:14 says "But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me, the Lord has forgotten me."
I love God's answer to this statement...
Isaiah 15-16 "Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me."
God was trying to give us a picture of His faithfulness by comparing Himself to a mother. While it is very unusual for a mother to forget/neglect her newborn baby, in this fallen world, it does happen.  However, He went a step further to assure us that even IF our earthly mother could do such a thing, He would NEVER forget us!  The part about engraving us on the palms of His hands is such a clear foreshadowing to Jesus' nail pierced hands.

As a mother of two boys, I can so appreciate this analogy. I could never forget about my kids,  There's hardly a moment in the day when they're not on my mind. Oh, but there was that one incident... a few years ago when I lost track of time and was about 15 minutes late picking them up from school. By the time I got there, my oldest was panicking because I'd never been that late before. So you see, even a loving, kind hearted Mom such as myself (LOL), can make mistakes. This is not so with my Heavenly Father. He is always faithful - no matter what's going on in my life, if He says He's not forgotten me, then that is the truth I'll stand on.
