May I Have This Dance?

If you've only seen a God who is uninterested in your seemingly small stuff, you should get your eyes checked.

Let me set the scene. Coffee shop. Guys and Doll's music spread out on the table. Pencil in hand. CD player and earphones with cast recording annoyingly replaying the same song. (Pre-iPod days.)

Choreographer brain-freeze. As in, pencil-tapping stumped. Not wanting to do the same 'ole, same 'ole that one sees in this production, I was straining to come up with something clever and unique. With 45 minutes until rehearsal, my pages were blank.

That's when I gave up. With a snicker I flippantly asked God to choreograph the piece. Which I didn't believe He would do it. I mean seriously, what did he care about Nathan Detroit?

My pencil hit the sheet music and didn't stop for 30 minutes. To my surprise, delight, embarrassment, relief, awe, joy, and shame for disbelief, my production number, God's number was complete.

Why do we limit Him? I wonder if it's because WE are the ones who actually look at our needs as paltry. When will we get it through our thick skulls that we are not petty and unimportant to God?

Sitting there that day, I learned that God is a terrific dancer. Maybe you don't need Him to dance (literally), but I'm sure there is something insurmountable that you aren't bringing to Him because YOU find it trivial. Want to see more of Him? Scripture tells us not to worry, but, let's face it. We do. So how about we explore the remainder of that well known verse.

Philippians 4:6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

Me? I gave God props. And comps to the show.
