This first week of Easter we are reflecting on PURPLE and what that beautiful color means when it comes to Jesus, our resurrected Lord and Savior. John 19:5 states that before his crucifixion, Jesus was adorned in a crown of thorns and a purple robe. Is there anything to be made of the “purple-ness” of said robe?

Well, I did a little digging, and I did find some fascinating little “findings” I’d like to share.

Take a look at the meaning and significance of a few colors…

PURPLE: An extremely rare color in nature, purple was an expensive color to replicate on garments in ancient times, and thus reserved for royalty.

BLUE: A color often associated with purity, trust, grace, and heaven

RED: A color often referring to sin, blood, passion, and fire.

And as we all know...BLUE + RED = PURPLE.

So…what happened when a fully divine and yet fully human man took on the sins of the world?

(Purity, trust, grace, heaven) + (sin, blood, passion, fire) =

Royalty.

King of Kings and Lord of Lords, to be exact.

Happy first week of Easter!
