Fall Changes Everything

I used to love Fall.

The coolness of the weather, the freshness in the air, the changing colors of the leaves…and then? There was that move to Texas.

Where no weather is cool. The air is not fresh. And the only colors that change are the silk floral arrangements everyone bought at Michael’s so that we’d all have a little splash of autumn in our lives.

Yes, I am still mourning the loss of my Fall. I may forever (so there).

But, I confess, Fall is never long enough for me, no matter where we are. If we still lived in the Blue Ridge Mountains, those gorgeous leaves would eventually fall to the ground anyway.

There are just some things in life that aren't meant to be held on to forever…even if they provided spectacular beauty for a time.

Some of those things aren't things at all. They are hearts that I love, and whose brilliance astounds me, and whose warmth makes me ache for their return.

It would serve us well to remember that even though the leaves are destined to fall, we can rest assured in the knowledge that after a time of cold and sleeping, all things of spectacular beauty and brilliance will be so again.

After all, such things were breathed into us by the very epicenter of beauty and brilliance. The One who thinks so much of us, He not only wants to, but also promises to hold onto us forever.

“O death, where is thy sting?”
