Stories of God's Gentleness

One of my most favorite scenes in "A Princess Bride" is when Princess Buttercup finds that her true love after an uncertain parting. She is kissing him all over his face and even lifting his head off of the pillow as she is SO crazy excited to see him. All the while Wesley, who is (unbeknownst to Buttercup) mostly paralyzed, is telling her "gently...GENTLY!!" as she drops his head (with a loud thud) onto the headboard. Ouch. Love so intense can be, well, intense!

So what of the love of God? What of the love that created stars thousands of times bigger than our sun? What of the love that would give his only son for us so that we could have a crazy exciting reunion? How is it that this kind of love can be so gentle as to come to us in a whisper? It's inconceivable, really.
