I saw the movie, "Lincoln" on Friday night.
The dialogue is incredible. Lincoln's stories, his "slow to speak" approach to answering questions or calming conflict, how careful he seemed to be with his words . . . all something to note.
Of course the movie is a dramatization of this favorite President of mine, but I like to think that they got it right.
One line stood out to me during the film, and I committed it to memory, vowing to make it mine. For it sums up a desire that I have deep within myself that until last year I didn't realize I clung to so desperately.
"It is a joy to be comprehended."
As a writer, misunderstandings over my content, have opened up a whole heap of trouble for me in the past. A statement that I meant to mean "this" or "that" has been misinterpreted or misrepresented many a time. Sure, I realize this happens to everyone, but it has wounded me. I still write what I feel lead to write, but I realize now, that there is always a risk that I will NOT be comprehended properly when I do so. As a result, I've become bit distrustful and careful of those who do not care to investigate through dialogue and questions what they think I may mean.
Only, I AM comprehended by the ONE who hears and knows me PERFECTLY.
Psalm 139:2 says, "You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar."
Matthew 9:4, 12:25 and Luke 9:47, 11:17 shares that Jesus knows our thoughts.
My friends, "It is a JOY to be comprehended."
By the ONE who matters most.
