Unlock Courage

The minute you said, “yes” to His inexplicable gift, God has been growing courage within you. He had to. He knew you would need it. God knew it would take a lot of courage to be able to follow Him without abandon.

The trouble is, many days we behave as if that courage is not there. We act as if we have never heard His words or learned of His mighty acts. There are many days when we listen to the words of the fearful instead of those of the fearless. We may have a lion’s-share of courage, but often times it is safely locked inside of us, never tapped.

This courage has been feasting off of God’s word and wonders, building slowly within us. It is roaring to escape from its confines and wreak havoc on your life, chasing away your fears, and replacing them with the thoughts and actions of one who knows that “Love Wins.”

Enter Jesus, the safe breaker. You must be quiet. You must be still. You must trust Him to draw near to you. He is gentle. He leans in close, the dial in one hand, and one ear pressed to the “safe” you have built around your courage. He begins to work.

He turns the dial left. He turns the dial right. He listens for that change in you, when something within you “clicks” in place. He gently nudges you in a different direction. He is nudging you slowly, carefully and intentionally until all at once, everything clicks into place. Your courage is UNLOCKED…or perhaps better said, UNLEASHED.

When you are ready, you will let the ROAR of God’s Love and Power and Might be the new filter through which all other sounds of life are heard. Be still, be quiet, and consider this: How else might it have been that a terrified group of disciples managed to emerge from behind locked doors with a boldness and purpose that could not be shaken? (John 20:19)

“For God hath not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” – 2 Timothy 1:9
