My pastor likes to say, "Read the psalms until you find yourself, and camp out there." As my DFF gals have shared, the book of Psalms is full of encouragement, comfort, and inspiration for any season we may be facing. I like to think of it as the great Biblical musical, where David and his fellow song writers comprised lyrics to the ebbs and flows of life. In joy and in sorry, Psalms is my go to book. And because it is a selection of songs, I often take my guitar along for the ride.
Singing the Psalms has been a innovative way to digest the Word for me. I pick a few chords on my guitar, play them over and over, and just sing the words straight out of the Bible. As I sing, I start to memorize the scripture naturally, and turn it not only into worship, but a prayer to the King. Honestly, this simple practice has become one of my favorite and richest ways to commune with God. And like a song that you just can't get out of your head, God's Word seems to linger in my heart and mind the rest of the day.
"For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm!" Psalm 47:7
