Avoiding the Appointment

My daughter has an appointment with the doctor today and she'd rather go anywhere but there. She dreads the poking and prodding and wants to avoid all the questions about things she usually keeps to herself. She doesn't want to be examined and she definitely doesn't want to be confronted about the things she might be doing wrong.

I am the same way. I avoid the doctor at all costs, essentially because I don't want to be exposed. Of course I know that having those things exposed will ultimately lead to better living. I'd just rather keep some things under-wraps so that I can avoid the work involved in making changes.

I often feel that way about my appointments with the Lord. Sometimes our time together is downright uncomfortable. I want to sit and talk about how I'd like to be blessed, and He wants to poke and prod a little, shedding light on areas in my life that need a little work.

It's far from fun, but it's in those moments of conviction that He pulls the best out of me and makes me more like him. And, while knowing that doesn't make those appointments any easier, it definitely makes them worthwhile. Here's hoping you won't avoid those appointments--sometimes a little poking and prodding is exactly what we need.

So I said: "Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The LORD of hosts." Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. 7And he touched my mouth with it, and said: "Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged."  Isaiah 9:5-6
