In my lifetime I have had any number of spiritual
moms. In fact, I have had so many that I
truly cannot list them all. I am a firm believer that if you nurture, if you take care of, if you encourage, feed, clothe, listen to, teach,* then you mother.
There
is the spiritual mom I watch comfort a screaming toddler. She teaches me the value of a low lullaby and
a soft shoulder.
There
is the spiritual mom who battles chronic illness with purpose and joy. She teaches me about purposeful joy.
There
is the spiritual mom who, well, she is just herself. Her unconventionality inspires me to be truly
me.
There
is the spiritual mom who tried something completely unexpected and loves
it. I learned that the only failure is
not to try.
There
is the spiritual mom who lost her husband, who teaches me courage and true
reliance on God.
There
is the spiritual mom whose child battles addiction. From her I learn perseverance and
unconditional love.
There
are the spiritual moms who balance a full-time job with a full-time family. I learn more from them than I can list here.
There
are spiritual moms who use creative correction with their children. My relationship with my sons has been
invaluably influenced for the better.
There
are spiritual moms who speak life to me, be it through their books, blogs or facebook
statuses.
Some of my spiritual moms are reading this right
now. Four of them wrote about spiritual
moms this week.
Mother is a verb, not a noun. ~Unknown
