MP900407548[1]I’ve never observed Lent, but I understand that those of you who do are in the home stretch. Think of me as your Lenten cheerleader here on the sidelines, cheering you on. Yep, that’s me you hear yelling, “Go! Fight! Win!” and while I can’t fit my college cheerleading uniform now, I’m cheering just as emphatically as I did then, encouraging you to finish strong.

Whether you’ve dedicated this time toward giving something up or adding something on, I’m certain you’ve faced some challenges. As you near the end of this time of discipline and sacrifice, you’re likely facing some pressure to just give in. Hear me praying that you’ll find renewed strength and that you’ll feel the very breath of God flowing through you as you inhale and keep pushing. Take a moment to remember why you committed to this time of sacrifice, and let that thought propel you forward.

As I write this to you, I can’t help but remember Jesus as He approached the cross. I hear His words as He prayed in the garden,

"My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will, not mine." Matthew 26:39 NLT

My sincere hope is that any desire you have to quit will be swallowed up by God’s desire to work in your life. Make the most of this time of sacrifice as you focus on the sacrifice He made, “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2 NKJV
