Confident Decision Making

Decisions at Daily Fast FuelEenie, meenie, miney, mo…

Remember when decision making was that simple—when all that stood between you and the right choice was a rhyme? Regardless of the decision, you knew exactly how to decide, and wherever the finger landed was the choice you were content to make.

Oh, for simpler times, when we had confidence in our decision making process and satisfaction with our decisions. How often does that happen as adults? If you’re anything like me, not often enough.

Things are harder. The stakes are higher and we’d look silly rhyming and pointing. We need a more mature way to make decisions, one just as reliable, just as satisfying and much less embarrassing.

I think I’ve got one.

One of my favorite chapters in the Bible is Proverbs 8. It’s a wonderful description of the benefits of wisdom. Have a decision? Need direction? You need wisdom—for whoever finds wisdom finds life, but those who fail to find it harm themselves (35, 36). So, how do you find wisdom? It’s calling out to you from the place of truth (v. 7) and righteousness (v. 20) and if you search for it, “you’ll surely find it” (v. 17). The Lord gives it freely to those who ask (James 1:5) and if you fear the Lord, you’re off to a great start (Psalm 111: 10). There’s only one place I know of where truth and righteousness can always be found. And, wouldn’t you know it, it’s also full of answers to all of life’s questions. Dig in to find those answers and the wisdom you need to be confident in your choices. It’s a fail-safe way of keeping you on the right path and there’s no rhyming or pointing involved.

“Good advice and success belong to me [wisdom]. Insight and strength are mine. Because of me, kings reign, and rulers make just laws. Rulers lead with my help, and nobles make righteous judgments.” Proverbs 8:14-16 NLT
