Forgive and Forget

I've been blessed with an awesome memory. I can recall detailed moments in my life as far back as four years old. All I need to do is think about a situation in my past and I can see it vividly in my mind as if it just happened. This is a wonderful gift when I'm meditating on a "happy" memory.  As you can imagine, the opposite is true when the memories are not so good.

The problem is, the enemy only wants me to remember the BAD things! After committing my life to live for Jesus, I knew that I was saved from eternal separation, but the whole “forgiveness of sins” was hard to grasp. You see I understood and believed it theologically, but had a hard time experiencing this truth in the natural.  I would play my mistakes and failures over and over again in my mind, allowing fresh feelings of shame and condemnation to arise. In this case, my memory worked against me because I couldn’t get free from  regret.  This one truth from God's Word helped set me free and enabled me to move on from the “bad memory trap.”

Hebrews 8:12 “I will forgive their sins, and remember their wickedness no more”

The God of the Universe, who is Omniscient, who created memory in the first place…decided to set things up so that when you ask for forgiveness, He not only forgives you, but He FORGETS!  How can I keep replaying all my sin when God Himself has cast them as far as the East is from the West ? (Psalm 103:12)  When God looks at you, He sees you clothed in righteousness because of Jesus.

So when you’re memories are haunting you – remember this…God has forgotten your sin, but He will NEVER forget you!
