Wherefore Art Thou 2013? I Thought We Had A Good Thing Going!!

As I sit to write my reflections on the challenges I left behind in 2013, I am left shaking my head. Because, in this moment, given what has already been served on my plate, less than a month into 2014, I would willingly RUN back to 2013 with open arms.

I honestly can’t think of one challenge in 2013 that holds a candle to what my family has gone through and is preparing to go through in the shiny and new 2014.

I know I’m supposed to be looking back in reflection, but for the record, 2014 can kiss my grits!

That having been said, I did indeed have one segment of scripture that stayed with me rather stubbornly throughout last year. It was pretty much most of Philippians 1 and 2. It seemed like whenever I would look up anything Bible-wise, it always led me back to Philippians. It was like God was shining a spotlight on it.

And now, I am rereading it with wonder. In 2013, these verses encouraged and convicted me with lessons of selflessness, legacy, and obedience.

Now, I wonder if God was planting some Words of Life into my soul in preparation for what was coming. That is what He does, you know? He is a gardener. He brings forth life from lifeless things. That’s His whole gig.

That’s what I’m praying for, anyway.

Sweet Jesus, let’s see what you’ve got! You must be planning quite a crop this year because the soil is looking pretty full of doo-doo. I hear that makes good fertilizer. We shall see. (Love you, though. Mean it.)

But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow. – Philippians 2:27
