Inheriting the Land

Confession number one.  Sometimes on road trips, or while hiking, or meandering through a lovely flower garden, I think to myself – my land is beautiful.

“The heavens belong to the Lord, but he has given the earth to all humanity.” Psalm 115:16 (NLT)

Confession number two.  I’m convinced I’m royalty.  My Father is the King. I’ve been adopted into a prestigious family and given a unique and elaborate inheritance.  Amongst that which has been bequeathed to me is – yes, the planet earth.

Not too shabby.  Thankfully, God knows the entire earth is a little too much for this princess to steward.  But in each season He gives me a little “garden” to tend.  He fills it with relationships and opportunities for influence, hands me some seeds, a little watering can, and invites me to cultivate some Kingdom in that place.

Cultivating Kingdom can look different for each of us on any given day. So often in my life, transforming the world around me begins with prayer.  Our prayers are powerful, pulling heaven down to earth as they release wisdom, understanding, intimacy, provision, healing, and more. Cultivating Kingdom might mean loving the one in front of us, giving graciously to those in need, having a meaningful conversation, smiling, making dinner for those we love, or encouraging another to dream again.

What does tending your garden look like today?

Thank you, Jesus for giving us this world.  Teach us how to care for it and those around us with your wisdom.  Show us how to transform our gardens that they would speak of who You are!
